Curved Improv Piecing with Elaine

Would you like to ease into improvisational curved piecing and/or more traditional curved piecing? Elaine will show some very forgiving and useful techniques for piecing curves both with and without improvisational techniques, including how to correct small errors without ever touching your seam ripper. Banish your fears about curves! And yes, if you follow Elaine on Instagram (@messygoat) she is one of those quilters who is very insistent about using pins—except when piecing curves. What? Yep. No pins on curves!

• Five or six Fat Quarters that coordinate (or 10-15 scraps at least 10” square)

• neutral thread for piecing

• Elmer’s washable glue stick (in school supplies section of your grocery store)

• Elmer’s washable white glue (only get a small bottle of this— easier to handle and then you’re not stuck with a ton of it if you don’t like the technique)

• seam ripper, thread snips, machine you know how to use

• about 5-6 pins just to keep stacks organized

• small cutting mat

• 45mm or smaller rotary cutter with a fresh blade (important— dull blades will frustrate you and are dangerous anyway)
