Domestic Free Motion with Elaine

Domestic Machine FMQ class: Are you new to longarm quilting but tired of meandering and straight-line matchstick quilting? Elaine will help you gain confidence and add a few more fun filler stitches to your repertoire. You’ll get to try and combine hook swirls, flowers, wavy lines, ribbon candy, McTavishing, headbands, pebbles, and even free-form or structured feathers!


Supplies for this:

• two fat quarter sandwiches ready for quilting (either pinned or pin-basted; Elaine can help with pin-basting during class if you don’t know how)

• cotton thread and bobbin thread that contrast with each other AND with the top and bottom fabrics

• fresh needle for your machine (whatever you like for piecing is fine; my favorite is a 90/14 topstitch needle but don’t go on a quest if you can’t find that)

• sewing machine that can drop the feed dogs and knowledge of how to do that (THIS IS IMPORTANT), ideally with a flat surface that is largeenough for both of your hands to rest on each side of the foot (ie an extension table)

• darning or quilting foot for your machine (I like an open toe but whatever came with your machine is fine)

• seam ripper, thread snips, marking tool of your choice if you want to pre-mark feather spines when we get to that.

What NOT to bring:

• your internal critic

• a quilt that you want to quilt during class (this is a technique class!)
